Great Pizza In Scottsdale 85254 Check Out IL BOSCO!

Over the weekend we went to dinner with long time photographer friends Ken Ross and Karen Shell and they suggested Il Bosco. Ken, a lifelong pizza fanatic, claimed it was the best pizza in Scottsdale and if my first experience is any indication, I’d have to say that it is in my top 3 all time.

That’s saying a lot because my husband and I are Pizza Lovers with a capital P&L. Scottsdale has many excellent pizzerias and I’ve eaten at most of them, not all of them but a substantial number. So I will continue to test their menu, (a tough job but someone has to do it), and will update my review.

Everyone has their favorites and not everyone’s taste buds tell the same story. I have a friend who is convinced Little Caesars makes great pizza, sorry Mike but it’s really pretty awful.

So, when I make the claim that Il Bosco is one of the top 3 pizzerias in Scottsdale I know I’ll be challenged. All I’m saying is give them a try before passing judgment.

The owner, Bill Forrest, insists on using only the very best all natural ingredients available. The dough is made fresh each day and each pizza is made only a few feet away in an open kitchen. The sauces are all house-made and toppings are local organic veggies and meats.

Bill is a relative new-comer to the Scottsdale Culinary scene after spending 35 years as a golf professional. He was named PGA of America Teacher of the Year in 2006. His love of great pizza is life long and before opening Il Bosco he was perfecting his craft in his own backyard wood fired pizza oven.

Once his recipes were perfected, he opened Il Bosco in the summer of 2012 and he quickly made fans of local pizza lovers like our friend Ken.

Great Pizza In ScottsdaleIL Bosco is small (seats about 40) and a little out of the way, my kind of place. The staff is attentive and friendly and helped the first-timers with menu suggestions and they were spot on. My husband and I shared one of Il Bosco’s biggest sellers, a Biaggia Pizza – Prosciutto, Figs, Goat Cheese and Arugula $13 and one of the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted.

I had a glass of Stellina Pinot Grigio $8.50 and my husband had a glass of Four Peaks Kilt Lifter $5. The couple at the table next to us were sharing Roasted Seasonal Veggies with Burrata Cheese $8 and a Joanna Pizza – Mozzarella Cheese, House Tomato Sauce, Hot Sausage and Pepperoni and gave both dishes two thumbs up.

After finishing the pizzas we were all full so dessert will have to wait for our next trip but I’ll be following up with another post. Maybe I’ll see you there.
